Our experience in Customs and International Trade spans a period of seventeen years with nine of those being in the private sector consulting arena, to a predominantly corporate client base on all aspects of  Customs and Excise Legislation.

Our client base is testament to the fact that we are a committed, reliable and experienced team, with a reach and access to key private and public sector individuals, both in KwaZulu-Natal and nationally. These relationships include those with the Department of Trade & Industry, the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Department of Minerals and Energy. SCC is also a member of the Durban Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and affiliated to SACCI and BUSA.

  • Customs Tariff Classification

To assist clients by ensuring that imported products are correctly classified so that the correct customs duties and import value-added tax is paid.

  • Customs Valuation Methodology

Specific emphasis here is placed on dutiable and non-dutiable charges, which include royalty, licensing fees, buying commission, finance and interest and inland haulage, which ultimately affect the customs value thereby impacting on duty and value-added tax payable on import.

  • Tariff Applications

Assisting various sectors such as the Chemical, Textile, Automotive, FMCG, Home and Personal Care and the Paper Industry with applications to the ITAC for the creation of rebate items on imported raw materials, which are used in the manufacturing of other products.

  • Application to the ITAC for the reduction or increase of customs duty on imported raw materials, used in the manufacturing of other products.


Assisting clients with the correct implementation of their custom's rebates: i.e. registration with Customs, licensing of a rebate store, designing of the rebate register and training of the internal staff regarding the management of the rebate facilities.

  • Assisting with the understanding of the SA-EU and SADC Free-Trade Agreements in terms of compliance with the Rules of Origin Criteria.  This is necessary to ensure that purchasers of SA products are able to claim preferential rates of duty on products that they import into their countries.

 

  • Other Services

  • SCC works closely with the corporate supply chain teams to identify cost saving opportunities and assistance is provided to clearing and forwarding agents to ensure correct customs clearances.

  • Meetings are facilitated between Customs and the various sectors for specific customs concessions (raises the profile of client).

  • We serve as the Interface between certain industries and the SARS.

  • We provide training on all aspects of the Customs Legislation.

  • We assist with all Customs and DTI registrations.

    Assistance is provided in respect of the DTI incentive claims (EMIA and local manufacturing incentives).


Specialised export training and facilitation to assist companies in becoming export ready.

  • Diesel refund claims to the South African Revenue Service and the Department of Minerals and Energy.
